Hummer
Sales Fall for
8 consecutive months!

H ummer is a Bummer

The Hummer is just another potential GM blunder. Saab jeopardized the Saturn line. Fiat is a fiasco. The Daewoo was a disaster. The Oldsmobile was doomed. The GM line competes with Chevy, Pontiac, and Buick.

General Motors' German unit Opel on Friday said its
2003 operating loss widened to 384 million euros
($US476 million) from a loss of 227 million a year
earlier, according to Reuters.

GM at one time owned more than 50% of the US market. It has shrunk to about 30% and may be slipping further. In "brutally frank" statement GM
bosses could flip over, GM's vice chairman Lutz
says "so what" to prospects of Toyota displacing GM as #1 automaker worldwide

Besides production and design blunders, and purchasing offbeat unprofitable makes, GM is also plagued by steep pension and health care costs, as well as what seems to be a never ending job of keeping worker morale up.

Short cuts like buying other lines that lack value is one of GM's greatest mistakes. If they concentrated on improving the quality of their existing lines they would have prospered. The Hummer is another vehicle that has no purpose in the GM line. It competes with the Chevy, GM, Buick, and Pontiac lines and draws customers away from GM's high-end makes. It's a tragedy for existing dealers.

The following recent headlines, endorse our opinion that GM is wasting it's time and resources on aquiring new brands, and not paying enough attention to its existing lines. All manufacturers have defects and recalls, but this may be getting out of hand.

General Motors recalls 1.8 million cars

General Motors is recalling about 1.8 million cars for an electrical defect that could spark a fire in the steering column, according to Reuters

General Motors recalls over four million pickup trucks to fix tailgate cables

General Motors on Thursday said it will recall more than four million full-size pickup trucks to replace tailgate support cables that may corrode and fracture. March 2004

The Don't Buy List is based on our judgment and we only invite you to follow our logic. Buying a car is one of the largest buying decisions you will make. We are only trying to help you make an intelligent decision. At times price alone is not enough. For example the Daewoo. What seemed like a great price has come back to haunt buyers. Many are losing an enormous amount in the resale, warrantee, parts, and insurance.

ARNOLD & CA
ENVIROS: The actor who owns Hummers that average 10 miles to the gallon has now been elected governor of a state that has long provided national leadership on environmental issues, especially those like clean air and more fuel-efficient automobiles. Can Arnold Schwarzenegger and California's environmental impulses coexist?

It's very difficult to say you care about the environment when you own a gas guzzling environmental destroyer like the Hummer.

Hummer -Don't Buy It!!!

We recommend that you do not buy this car.

The Hummer is a Bummer.

The Ho-Hum Hummer

The Scummer

by Paul Barrrett

The tragedy of September 11, 2001 is ultimately about oil. What we find so disturbing is that GM would introduce the Hummer - H2 - a gas guzzling road hog of a vehicle - in light of the fact that gas consumption puts dollars into the hands of our enemies. True, we are a consumptive nation. But why slap the American public in the face with a gas wasting hog that only contributes to our dependence on foreign oil.

When other SUV manufacturers are down-sizing their SUVs, some socially inconsiderate executive at GM decided to increase our demand on oil. That keeps us dependent as well as contributes to putting our troops at risk in a war about oil.

The Hummer is the only supersize SUV to be introduced after the 9-11 crisis. The other large SUVs were aready designed and manufactered years before 9-11. It's a vehicle that makes us oil dependant at the worse of times.

The Hummer is also potential road hazzard. The Hummer is so excessively heavy, it can be a danger to other drivers. It is also difficult to maneuver and offers limited visibility. We believe this vehicle is a danger to the public.

Another fault we find with the H2 Hummer is that we believe it is insulting to the original H1. The H2 is not the real deal. In comparison to the H1, the H2 is a fake. The introduction of a fake military replica, or knockoff, that wastes gas, while our troops are dying in battle seems insanely inconsiderate on the part of GM.

Unless you are super wealthy and can't find enough ways to waste money, there's no purpose to a Hummer. It's a cramped, bumpy, ugly, gas guzzle. Only 8-12 miles per gallon.

The Hummer is a loser from every perspective unless you are going to war. Even then, the H2 is not combat ready like its H1 predecessor. The H2 is a faux military vehicle that lacks style and luxurious comfort. A bumpy vehicle with no where to go.

Our concern for consumers and our members is that the vehicle is trendy, which means buyers will overpay for the vehicle. Some dealers are not discounting the Hummer and may be charging more than sticker. The chances are that resale values will nose-dive in the future. Especially after buyers wake up to the shafting they received.

Another factor impacting resale of the H2 is the possibility of the H3 junior being manufactured. This will be even a cheaper vehicle and could significantly reduce any snob appeal status that the H2 has received from the H1's expensive price tag.

Our opinion is that the Hummer is a Bummer. It's a waste of money. They start around $50,000 and additions add dollars above that mark.

The Hummer lost it's impact years ago. When it first came out it garnished attention. Much of it negative. Many women especially disliked the looks of this vehicle. Basically the Hummer is a box on wheels. It's boring. The Ho-hum Hummer puts you to sleep with its boring box -like-style.

Besides lacking in style, the Hummer can be considered a fake. It's not the animal it once was. The original H1, built by AM, was the real deal. A military vehicle that could get the job done. Even the snorkel air intake boxes on the H2 are fake. The airlift hooks on the hood are fake, they are made of plastic!

The H2 is a pickup truck with big wheels. Yes, it's built on the GM truck platform. Esentially, it's a Chevy Silverado pickup truck.

The H2 shares the same platform as the Chevy Silverado pickup, Chevy Avalanche, GM Sierra, GM Yukon and the Cadillac Escalade. If GM was not competing against itself and damaging the sales of its other vehicles, you might consider it clever to dress up a Chevy Silverado pickup and double the price. But they are damaging Chevy, GMC, and Cadilac sales. It's amazing that Chevy, GMC, and Cadilac dealer are not more upset with GM's ridiculous self-competing maneuvers.

Are they deceiving the general public? Unlike the original H1, the H2 contains Pontiac parts, and parts from the GM pickup and SUV lines.

The Ho-Hum Hummer sticks out like a sore thumb. It reminds us of a girl who draws attention by wearing a skirt obnoxiously too short. It's in bad taste. We could say "all dressed up with no where to go" but the H2 is not dressed up. But it has no where to go.

When we say "no where to go" what we mean is that there is no way for most purchasers to use the vehicle as designed. The average driver may never use a Porche to its design limits. But at least they can step on the accelerator and get a rush. They can take a tight corner and get a sense of adventure. A Porche is fun to drive. But what do you do with the H2? There are no mountains in Florida. Even if there were, how many people are going to climb a mountain with a $50,000 plus vehicle? And if they did, how often? And how many fools would be willing to risk their lives to find out how steep of an incline the truck can handle?

Besides its other dubious sense of usefulness, the big-boring-box lacks cargo space. Even with the rear seats down, it only has 86.6 cubic feet. That's less than a Toyota or Lexus. It's even less than the popular and highly useful Ford Expedition and the Lincoln Navigator.

Is the small glass window on the side a safety hazard? If you like the idea of hunching over to see, then drive this vehicle.

The H2 is very difficult to get inside. Many driver must use a step. This will get very tiring after awhile.

The H2 is also a parking nightmare. If you own one, your curse (on top of paying for gas) is trying to park this pathetic grocery getter.

This is a car for someone who craves attention. It's for the ego maniac who is insecure.

The truth about most sports utility vehicles is that they are designed beyond the needs and driving skills of most drivers. The Hummer is the epitome of foolishness. This is Florida, do you really need a vehicle that can climb mountains? Even if you lived in Colorado, it would be insane to drive this vehicle off road to the extent that it can be driven. It's a truck. So what! Why pay over $50,000 to be uncomfortable? Why buy a vehicle that you will never use for the purpose it was created? It's kind of phony to buy a truck that can climb mountains, that has no other redeeming value, when you will never use it.

Challenge

The Range Rover, Navigator, Jeep Cherokkee and a host of other vehicles can compete off-road with the Hummer for any practical use. We are willing to design an off-road course and challenge the Hummer using one of the above SUVs. Is GM up to the challenge?

We will also modify a Ford, Chevy, or Dodge pickup truck to compete with the Hummer. Let us show you how to save money and get better performance.

Drivers will never use the Hummer for what it was designed for. What they will pay for is an uncomfortable, bumpy, cramped, gas guzzle that is anything but glamorous and luxurious.

If a Hummer owner tells you they love the vehicle, chances are they don't want to admit they like the attention and made a foolish financial mistake.

A car for strange people who want to prove they are "different." Be yourself, don't try to draw attention to yourself using an "ugly" truck.

This article was posted when the H2 was placed for sale. I took a risk in predicting that the H2 was overpriced. It's hard to believe that buyers were paying above invoice for this vehicle. Look at sales now!

BUMMER FOR HUMMER? Just as most dealers are undertaking the ambitious construction project just as Hummer, the loudest and proudest of the giant American SUVs, has shown signs of losing its swagger. Sales of the flagship Hummer H2 have fallen for 8 consecutive months, and 24% in the first 4 months of the year, compared with the same periods a year earlier. New York Times

Our profile of a typical Hummer Driver

The Detroit Project
SUV Gas Guzzler

IFI Boycott
The Hummer is a slap in the face of every American. It's an obnoxiously useless vehicle that wastes more gas than any other SUV. The Hummer is so ridiculously wasteful it provoked us to action. Our believe is that its only purpose to gain attention and to show off.

Road Hazard -Danger to Public

The Hummer is so excessively heavy, it can be a danger to other drivers. It is also difficult to maneuver and offers limited visibility. We believe this vehicle is a danger to the public.

GM Socially Irresponsible

The trend is for smaller gas saving and safer SUVs. The other sport utilities existed before this environmental awareness. In the midst of this environmental issue, GM introduces one of the most offensive gas guzzlers on the planet. What is GM thinking?

Hummer Hunters

When you see a Hummer give him this letter. Let them know how you feel about their wasteful and dangerous vehicle.

Hummer Boycott

We are boycotting the Hummer. We will ask GM to stop producing or we will boycott GM products. Let them know what you think.

WWJD

There is a christian site asking what would Jesus drive? Cautions Christians to not drive expensive cars and gas guzzlers.

Potential Resale Problems

Demand should soften for the Hummer as the market glut of SUVs takes over and the novelty wears thin. This will create a resale problem for Hummer owners. Prices may plummet.

Our Verdict:

Too Trendy

• Too Wasteful

• Too Dangerous

GM Shareholders

Stop thinking short-term and get management to concentrate on quality cars instead of creating or buying into poor choice brands.
